EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have won once in four games, and things have the potential to get a lot worse. The 2023 season could go south quickly. The next two games are at Miami (3-1) next Sunday and at Buffalo (3-1) the following week. A 1-5 start is a distinct possibility and the chances of New York making the playoffs for a second straight season would be slim.“I just try to focus on the here and now, and we’ve got a lot of improving to do, and that’s what we’re going to try to do,” coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday, less than 12 hours after the Seattle Seahawks used a dominating defense to beat the Giants 24-3 on “Monday Night Football.”New York looks nothing like the team that surprised the league in 2022 in Daboll’s first year as a head coach. Coming off five straight losing seasons, the Giants went 9-7-1 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They were competitive almost every game. That’s not the case this season. “I wo...Remembering fallen parole officer: PCSO provides update

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge quickly imposed a limited gag order in Donald Trump’s civil business fraud trial Tuesday after the former president disparaged a key court staffer.Interrupting a long day of testimony, Judge Arthur Engoron issued the order, which applies to all parties in the case and pertains to verbal attacks on court staff. It came after Trump recirculated a critical social media post about Engoron’s principal law clerk, Allison Greenfield. The post included a photo of Greenfield with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., posing for a picture at a public event. Trump, the Republican front-runner for president in 2024, has repeatedly cast the lawsuit and trial as a political attack by New York’s Democratic attorney general, Letitia James. Trump wrote that it was “disgraceful” that Greenfield was working with the judge in the courtroom.Aside from that sideshow, with Trump attending the trial for a second day, James’ attorney questioned an accountant in ...Speaker McCarthy’s job is at risk after House votes to move ahead with hard-right effort to oust him

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s grip on the gavel was at serious risk Tuesday after the House voted to move ahead with a historic vote, an effort by hard-right critics to oust the embattled Republican leader from the job.The high-stakes showdown forced by McCarthy’s chief rival, Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida, brought together more than a handful of conservative Republican critics of the speaker and many Democrats who say he is unworthy of leadership. The vote was 218-208 against tabling the motion, with 11 Republicans allowing it to advance. The House then opened an extraordinary floor debate, unseen in modern times, ahead of the next round of voting on what could be an motion to “vacate the chair” — something that has not happened in Congress in a century. It’s a stunning moment for the battle-tested McCarthy and serves as his most severe challenge yet, a potential punishment fueled by growing grievances but sparked by his weekend decision to work wit...Latest news
